Welcome to the Human Rights Week 2013 website. The United Nations Human Rights Day takes place on 10 December every year to celebrate human rights, highlight a specific issue, and advocate for the full enjoyment of all human rights by everyone everywhere. The date was chosen to honour the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the  United Nations on 10 December 1948.

 

UN HR Day logo 2013 smallerThis year, the spotlight is on the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, under the slogan '20 years working for your rights'. The international day has generated so many events that they often spill out into the days before and after 10 December, leading to a de facto 'Human Rights Week'.

 

FLAC (Free Legal Advice Centres) created this pop-up site to gather together a selection of the events going on around Ireland to celebrate human rights in Ireland, showing how diverse and important human rights are to people countrywide. It also shows the array of organisations working for human rights in this country
